Russo and Hemp Score as Lionesses Roar Into Last Four

England produced a superb performance to beat Colombia 2-1 and reach the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup.

Alessia Russo and Lauren Hemp scored the goals as the Lionesses overcame a resilient Colombia side in Valenciennes.

England will now face Sweden in the last four on Tuesday, July 2.

The Lionesses started brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute when Russo headed home a superb cross from Demi Stokes.

Colombia equalized just before half-time through Lady Andrade's penalty, but Hemp restored England's lead in the 57th minute with a clinical finish.

England held on for the victory despite late pressure from Colombia, and they will now be confident of reaching the final for the first time in their history.

Manager Sarina Wiegman was delighted with her team's performance.

"I'm very proud of the players," she said. "They showed great character and resilience to win the game. We knew it would be a tough match, but we stuck to our game plan and got the result we wanted."

England captain Millie Bright was also full of praise for her teammates.

"We're delighted to have reached the semi-finals," she said. "We knew it would be a tough game, but we showed great quality and determination to win the game. We're now looking forward to the semi-final against Sweden."
